Airport demonstrations scheduled for 11 a.m., Wed., Feb. 29 at DFW, New York (JFK and LGA), LAX, SFO, Boston, Miami, Atlanta, St. Louis,
Chicago (ORD), Detroit, Tulsa, and Nashville
Members of the Transport Workers Union (TWU) employed at American Airlines and American Eagle, joined by flight attendants (members of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants/APFA), retirees, family members and labor supporters will hold demonstrations at airports across the country this Wed., Feb. 29, at 11 a.m. to protest threatened job, pension and healthcare cuts at the two AMR subsidiaries.

“We’re standing firm for our families and for the future,” said TWU International President James C. Little. “AMR’s draconian plan to offshore maintenance work and outsource other jobs is bad for American and bad for America and must be challenged.”
AMR, which declared bankruptcy on Nov. 29, 2011, has announced plans to eliminate 13,000 jobs at American Airlines, including the work of 9,000 TWU members. Earlier this month, TWU proposed that AMR use a buyout program to encourage workers to leave voluntarily. The Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation (PBGC) also has been opposing AMR’s proposed plan of dumping pensions on the federal government.
